Our Cosmetic Standard
Before Placing Your Order With JCF:
At Johnson Custom Furniture, we take pride in creating one-of-a-kind
furniture pieces using solid wood, crafted by hand, and finished with
care.
Because our furniture is handmade and built from real wood, no two
pieces are ever exactly alike. We embrace the natural variations and
imperfections of real wood — they are part of what makes each piece special and uniquely yours. We build incredible pieces of furniture; however, if you are a hyper critical consumer, you should consider not purchasing a natural hardwood table build by real craftsman.
Before placing your order, please review the following standards to better understand what to expect:
🔹 Wood & Stain Variations
Every piece of wood has its own grain pattern and tone, so color and
grain differences are normal and expected. These natural traits mean no stain will look EXACTLY the same from one piece to the next — even when using the same color.
🔹 Stain Matching
We cannot match stain colors based on photos. If you want a specific
stain, you'll need to provide both the stain and the type of wood it's
intended for. Keep in mind, grain patterns and wood species affect how a stain looks, so exact matches aren't guaranteed. Our skilled team MAY BE able to closely match stains depending on many factors, but we cannot guarantee this. JCF is not responsible for a custom stain match attempt that does not meet the clients liking. It is recommended to purchase a sample prior to purchasing your piece of furniture.
🔹 Knots & Cracks
Real, hardwood lumber often has knots, checks, cracks, etc. We fill
all of these with either black or clear epoxy. This provides a smooth surface and reinforces the pieces structurally. The color of the epoxy used is up to our craftsman's discretion, although a custom color can be requested. Please note: every piece of wood as well as where we join boards for table tops can have micro cracks. These are NOT a defect in any way. This is part of a solid wood table top that is hand built by humans. Hyper critical clients should not purchase a handcrafted piece.
🔹 General Variations in Furniture
Handcrafted furniture comes with character—think small marks, texture
changes, and other quirks that add to its charm. Because of the handmade process, length and width of your piece can vary slightly (up to 1"). Standard heights that we build to are as follows:
Table Height: 28.5-31 inches
Seating Height: 17-19 inches
Bench Seat Depth: 15-18 inches
🔹 Solid Wood Movement
Wood is a natural material that expands and contracts with
temperature and humidity. This may cause small gaps in tabletops or
slight shifting over time. These changes are a normal part of solid wood furniture and do not affect the structural integrity.
By placing an order, the customer agrees to these cosmetic
standards presented as well as any and all other terms of Johnson Custom Furniture.
For electronic customers, by placing an order with Johnson Custom Furniture, you hereby agree to these standards, terms, and conditions.
Lead Times
⚠️ Lead Times
As of October 2025, we have approximately a 14-16 week lead time! We stay heavily booked year around. Lead times are estimates only!!! While we work hard to meet timelines,
high demand or delays in production can cause some orders to arrive
earlier or later than expected. We always prioritize quality over speed
and cannot promise exact delivery dates. If you're ordering for a
special event or deadline, please plan ahead accordingly. However, if you have a specific need, please voice that to us and we will do our best to work with you.

the style or customize it to better fit your space, materials, and

7. Can you give me a bigger discount?
Can you give us a tip? ;)
8. What type of finish do you use?
We use an industrial grade lacquer topcoat! Lacquer has been an industry
standard finish for fine furniture for decades. It keeps the hardwood
protected, feels amazing, and has the perfect sheen(not matte and not
gloss. A luxurious, classy low glow). Feel free to custom request an natural oil finish for added cost as well.
9. Do you offer commercial or office furniture?
Yes — we design and build custom furniture for commercial, office,
and hospitality spaces. Whether you need a one-of-a-kind conference
table, reception desk, or retail displays, we can bring your vision to
life.
We work closely with business owners, designers, and architects on larger scale projects.
If you have a brand style guide or design reference, we’re happy to match
materials, finishes, and details to keep your space cohesive.
10. How do I care for my new furniture?
Caring for your custom piece is simple and ensures it stays beautiful for years to come.
Here are our top care tips:.
- Wipe up spills immediately to avoid water rings or stains — our finish is
amazingly resistant to this but no finish will withstand water or excess
heat for an extended time. - Use a damp cloth and mild soap for occasional cleaning, followed by a dry cloth. DO NOT USE harsh chemicals, polishes, or silicone-based cleaners. DO NOT USE GLASS
CLEANER. - Protect from excess heat by using coasters, placemats, and trivets under hot dishes. Direct sunlight can fade wood tones over time, so consider rotating decor or using curtains/blinds to minimize exposure.
- Keep your home at a stable, low humidity. Wood responds to changes in temperature and moisture. JCF is not responsible for damage to your furniture due to unusual humidity levels in your home.
